The patriarchal idea that pregnancy is the only reason for a woman to have sex...
– Linda Weber’s Life Choices: The Teachings of Abortion
[Idiocy is ableist, but I’m not sure what I’d replace it with. Too many words, probably. This quote is also ciscentric - there are people who can get pregnant who do not identify as women, and women who cannot get pregnant.]

sarahthefifth asked: America the Beautiful is also a wonderful documentary of how society forms our idea of beauty
caffeinated-owl asked: Hello! Do you have any suggestions for feminist-themed documentaries? Especially those that deal with body image and self perception? Thank you! BTW I love this blog, keep up the good work :D
greatwhitegravity asked: Hokay. I remember, in my Biology of Women class, we watched a movie called "Fat" (PBS). The description is way, way too long to include here, but it's a wonderful documentary that explains that being fat is not a character flaw. There are tons of reasons why we're made to believe its our fault for being fat, and we ignore the societal causes (largely because they're hidden...

wolfennights asked: I am also deaf in one ear, and one time my friend said to me "What are you, deaf?" What made it funny was the fact that I didn't hear him say it, and the fact that he had forgotten that I was deaf somehow made it okay. But I wasn't really sure how to feel about it. :/
wolfennights asked: Reading feminist blogs has gotten me thinking about what types of humor are and are not okay. Whenever I laugh at something, I ask myself "By laughing at X, am I trivializing Y or offending Z?" For instance, Monday whenever I was rear ended at a stop light, and my friends and I just laughed about it, even though I was shaking at the time it happened. I was grateful that it wasn't my...

– Ask, tell: What gay rights wins can teach pro-choice movement - Abortion - Salon.com
Not sure I’m really a fan of this article in full, but the author does have a point. Maybe we do need to rethink the way we approach politicians about the issues associated with being pro-choice.
Anonymous asked: Can I like porn and still be a feminist? I know its degrading to women, but it turns me on. Should I stop watching it?

I think it would be really awesome to see what other people are reading and to actually be able to connect with other people on Tumblr, and I would love to set it up if enough people are into it. Or maybe even just a book club. Last time I asked I had half the followers I do now, so maybe this time we can make something work. Does anyone want to help me set this up? Have any comments or ideas to...

– Why Women Aren’t Crazy (via lagrandefille)
I hate when people claim that women are crazy or complicated or don’t know what they want because fuck you. When a woman is vocal about her opinions, desires, feelings, you call her a bitch or crazy or hysterical. Women have been taught that the only way...

Anonymous asked: That makes sense. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
Anonymous asked: Thanks, I just didn't want to sound ignorant if I'd missed something obvious :) I assumed they were restricting it to any person who identified as a woman, but if its open to everyone except male identifying penis owners that's even more confusing. I can understand the draw of wanting to support a feminist woman, but that doesn't seem wholly fair. Since it's a monetary...

mama4therevolution asked: I was suggesting that what was going on with your friend's friend is internalized rape culture. Makes me deeply sad, as well. I would be very disturbed if I saw an exchange like that as well.
Anonymous asked: It was on a status where a girl said she was being stalked. Someone else made the comment "RAEP VAN." before the comment I mentioned. I wanted to say something so bad, but I'd know they'd say "relax, it's just a joke. rape is of course a very bad thing, and i would never rape anybody."
mama4therevolution asked: Internalized rape culture?
Anonymous asked: One of my friend's Facebook friends posted on her status "Gotta stop giving off that rape victim vibe." Three of my female friends liked it. Wtf?
Anonymous asked: Hey I just wanted to say that as an obese women I think your blog is wonderful. :) I've spent most of the 18 years of my life trying to lose weight and it's not easy. Yeah, my weight is a problem, but it's not about being skinnier,...

burningiraffe asked: How do you feel about Gayle Laverne Grinds?
Anonymous asked: There's a big, important difference between being obese and being overweight. The previous anon was talking about obesity, not just having a BMI somewhat in the overweight range. When you're obese, no, you can't be healthy - it'd be reasonable to assume someone who was obese was incredibly unfit. It's possible to be somewhat overweight and still healthy - how overweight...

dreamweaverine asked: Hi! Just wanted to drop by to say that I love your blog! As well as bringing forward a joke my self-proclaimed feminist boyfriend told. (I think he would absolutely love this blog as well, btw, I think I'll show it to him.) He understand that these things are serious as well, but he just wanted to lighten my mood when I ranted about the PMS-argument when women are upset. so he said, "If...
Anonymous asked: but obesity isnt all that attractive, and it certainly isnt all that healthy.
Anonymous asked: Reading feminist blogs on Tumblr always makes me feel depressed. So many bloggers are always angry and take a "holier than thou" attitude with anyone who disagrees with them. Make a comment about someone's belly hanging out out of their shirt? OMG BODY POLICING. Your blog is good because you don't take an attitude with people. ;)
