Just for the record, I’m all for people wanting to be parents. If you want to have one child every year I’m all for that. If you want to have children when you’re in your teens I’m all for that. If you want to be a single parent or if you want to get married, get artificial insemination, fertility treatments whatever it’s your body and your right. I’m not going to EVER say that we should restrict someones choice to do with their body as they please. That being said, people deserve to be educated. If anyone wants the privilege to give birth to another human being and to help it grow and be the best parent they can be they need education. Being a parent isn’t easy. Being PREGNANT isn’t easy. Just like we should educate about any other life decision, buying a home, getting a job, going to school we need to educate about being pregnant, giving birth, and being a parent. There are a hell of a lot of people that don’t know what they’re getting into and that’s terrifying. Especially if you’re pregnant and you’re worried about the being growing inside of you. If you don’t know what’s normal and what isn’t that can be so scary. Not to mention that the U.S. society is appalling in their treatment of pregnant people. We get barely any maternity leave at all. I’ve seen pregnant people talk about going in and vomiting in trash cans every day, coming home in so much pain they can’t do anything but lay on the couch. Pregnancy isn’t a walk in the park and society needs to realize this so that we can treat our pregnant people better.
