"I'm trying to demonstrate to a journalist that we need to stop predication of unhealthy body image, to combat the morbid rates of anorexia and suicide associated with it. The guy has just said "positive change must come from within the individual, not society at large". Are there any statistics to show that big changes on the part of society *can* make individual girls less likely to do terrible things to themselves?" - from facebook. answers?

I am not sure that major societal changes and their impact on youth, eating disorders, and suicide rates is something that can really be boiled down to numbers. There are a lot of complicated aspects of this issue. I do not know of any that could help. Sorry!
