I think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach children anything, and by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc. Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a nuclear explosion to a firecracker.

Brilliant idea! A student from The College of New Jersey delivers condoms on campus through his CondAM service. Safer sex FTW!

Susan Johnson, a middle school performing arts teacher in South Lyon, Michigan, was suspended from her job for three days after allowing a student to play Macklemore’s song “Same Love” in class.

A student asked permission to play the pro-gay song, created to support Washington’s marriage equality law, and Johnson agreed. She said she thought it would contribute to a conversation about bullying and tolerance appropriate for a classroom of middle-schoolers.

But another student in the class was offended by the song and complained to school administrators, who suspended Johnson because of the song’s “controversial content.”

Johnson said she was shocked by her sudden suspension. “I’m very disappointed in the bias, the bigotry that I feel that they’re really hiding behind,” Johnson told Fox 2. “I really love my kids and I never want to hurt them, but I also know that there’s a lot of bullying and there’s a lot of gay bashing and racial issues going on in our country, and I want the kids to feel comfortable in my class no matter who they are.”

Unbelievable.
