Hi I was wondering if you had any advice on breast cancer? My mama was just diagnosed yesterday and they caught it early but I am still out of my mind with worry. Do you have any tips on how to handle someone close to you having breast cancer?

I’ve had a lot of family members who have been diagnosed and survived cancer, many of them breast cancer. It is always hard. Being out of your mind with worry is completely normal and understandable. Taking it one day at a time is often all you can do besides be there for the person you care about. As always, I recommend doing whatever self care means to you as much as you need it. Often when someone close to us is sick or hurting it is easy to forget that we need to take care of ourselves too. When we don’t take care of ourselves its hard to take care of others- so self care is key! If you need it, there are also a lot of support groups out there for families of people with cancer.

As far as resources go, I’ve got a couple saved that might help. You can find them below:

The goal is 10,000 signatures. I’d love it if everybody could not only sign it, but spread the word. I know we can do it!

For those of you who are just catching wind of what’s going, hop on in, the water’s warm! Here’s the original post where things are explained. :-) But really, you can find all the important deets by clicking the link! xx

Signal boost!

I know I geek out about this a lot, but this is one of the reasons why I believe we are living in the best time for feminists. Each and every one of us can make so much change. we have the ability… and the resources! This post discusses two of my favorite things” online activism and Planned Parenthood. Enjoy!

Great fundraiser going on in my hometown of Des Moines,  Iowa. RAYGUN is a popular t-shirt store here that features progressive, satirical designs and they are teaming up with Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. They wanted to put their own “spin” on the Rush Limbaugh controversy – all while supporting their favorite women’s health care provider.

All proceeds from the sale will support Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. You can be fashionable and support the work we do!
You can buy a shirt online here - http://raygunsite.com/

The shirt says: Just another slut on birth control. Please pass it on, help PP and get some amazingly awesome shirts out there!

Thanks,

Jessica

I was actually just looking for a shirt with this kind of attitude online last night, but could not find one I liked… this one is perfect. The design looks very cute, simple, powerful, and sleek! I shall be purchasing one. :-) If anyone else has anything like this they’d like me to signal boost, drop me a line and I’ll be more than happy to pass it along as well!

After there seemed to be so much interest in the “care packages” I sent out to a couple of people as thank you’s and such, it seemed like a great time to hold a contest!  Previous care packages look like this:

But…. I also have access to these super awesome t-shirts that say “Don’t yuck my yum”; one of my personal favorite sex-positive mantras. I’m wearing one of these shirts right now!

HERE IS HOW TO WIN!

Since the recent Komen/Planned Parenthood debacle, support for the organization is more important than ever! Lets show some support by making cheesy signs that say why we support Planned Parenthood! So here are the official rules:

  • You must be following to win.
  • Reblog adding in your own photo with a statement on why you support Planned Parenthood.
  • Depending on the popularity of the contest, I will pick 3-5 winners. Only one person will win a shirt, everyone else will get a package of condoms, lube, stickers, pins, info, and other awesome related goodies (maybe even a vibrator or a book?)
Here is an example of what I am looking for:

The contest ends on Wednesday February 29th at 3pm EST. I will notify the winners through their Tumblr. Good luck!
